Alexa Champion Marks, MSN, APRN, NP-C is a licensed, certified family nurse practitioner, which means she can see patients from pediatrics to geriatrics. Her education includes an undergraduate nursing degree from Virginia's Shenandoah University and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from University of South Alabama, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Iowa, Ohio, North Carolina, and Washington state. Her health care experience exceeds 18 years. This is the short version. For the long version, read on....
She graduated from Shenandoah University's Bachelor of Science Nursing program magna cum laude, as a member of Sigma Theta Tau (nursing honors society) and was awarded the Nursing Service Award. After becoming a Registered Nurse, she worked as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse, as well as in Home Health, and Occupational Health. Alexa also ran a business teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and basic life support for both medical professionals and laypersons.
She began her graduate studies to be a Family Nurse Practitioner at Georgetown University, before taking a sabbatical to battle breast cancer. Upon recovering fully, and with three teens going through college, she made a decision to go a less expensive route and attended a wonderful school in Mobile, Alabama: the University of South Alabama. Here, she was afforded unique experiences working with diverse populations she had not had the opportunity with which to work previously.
Alexa also had the opportunity to teach nursing students at George Washington University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing Accelerated Program program and Northern Virginia Community College Licensed Practical Nurse program as well as in the Health Science department, teaching Basic Life Support, First Aid, CPR and other related classes.
Before graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Sigma Theta Tau (nursing honor society), she had opportunities to do her clinical rotations in unique environments. Her clinical rotations included a large family practice in Loudoun County, VA, a multi-lingual, multi-cultural family practice attached to a mosque in Chantilly, VA, an internal medicine practice in a very rural town in West Virginia, a gynecology rotation in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural Free Clinic in Leesburg, VA, an obstetric rotation in a well-established practice in Loudoun County, VA, and completed her pediatric rotation in a small town in Mississippi.
As a nurse practitioner, her first job was in a weight loss clinic in Northern VA. From there, she worked in occupational health on a large Metro construction job site while simultaneously working on a PRN (as needed basis) in a national telehealth urgent care. During that time though, her primary role was working as a solo primary care clinician in a local, neighborhood clinic which allowed her to practice both primary care and women's health, with a large focus on reproductive health. When the construction on the Metro stop ended, she took a wonderfully educational position in men's health, along with her other positions. She LOVES working!
Then came the pandemic! Alexa got the opportunity to work in another national urgent care, while working in a men's telehealth clinic. Her next opportunity came along in a national psychiatric telehealth program in a great team--which unfortunately closed. Now, she is now spending all of her energy on Champion Health Care®. Every single opportunity was educational and helped build her knowledge base, while allowing her to network and grow as a clinician.
She loves making connections with her patients, but has never loved trying fit it all in to 10-15 minute slots. She knew there must be a better way. Circa 2019~ Champion Health Care® LLC was born, using her last name and the hope... the GOAL of better health care. Patients have direct access to her, when then need it; they do not have to wait until the next "appointment," in a week or month. Patients are attended to and triaged in a safe, supportive manner.
Her board certification as family nurse practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners prepares her to treat patients of all ages and genders.
Most of all, she wants to meet you and help YOU achieve your prime health. She wants to be YOUR health CHAMPION!
